Top News for the Week of 5/19/2014 – New Print-Management Solutions for Konica Minolta, Kyocera; Inkjet Strong in Production; More
There was no new office-imaging hardware this week, but two vendors introduced print-management solutions: Konica Minolta reported that NSi Output Manager is now available for its bizhub MFPs, while Kyocera Document Solutions reported that Argos OnBoard Print Management is now available for its HyPAS-enabled MFPs. These print-management solutions provide not only tracking of MFP activity from a central location, but secure pull-printing (enter credentials or swipe a card to release a job for printing), as well as rules-based printing. With rules-based printing, administrators can enforce cost-saving rules such as forcing users to print in duplex mode, print in monochrome only, etc.
Inkjet rules: while vendors such as Hewlett-Packard, Epson, and Memjet continue to seek to bring inkjet printing into the office, market-research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) reports that inkjet is making a big impact in the commercial printing market. According to the firm, the high-speed inkjet production-printer market will reach $1 billion in equipment sales by 2018, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.8 percent.
