Both Konica Minolta and Kyocera use AI to transition office-imaging devices and printers from passive hardware to proactive, intelligent network endpoints. They use AI for adaptive user authentication, real-time threat monitoring, intelligent pull printing, and predictive firmware defense.
Key AI Security Features
- Adaptive User Authentication and Access: AI learns regular user behavior and enhances verification. This ensures only authorized personnel can release print jobs via secure pull-printing. AI-driven single sign-on (SSO) systems securely integrate with cloud directories like Microsoft Entra ID.

- TASKalfa Smart Security: Kyocera integrates intelligent monitoring into the TASKalfa series to automatically classify documents and secure access points.
- AI-Driven Pull Printing: AI engines enhance the Pull Printing feature, ensuring that sensitive print jobs remain held on the server until the authorized user authenticates their identity directly at the machine.
- Proactive Maintenance and Self-Diagnosis: Kyocera’s AI measures the health and usage patterns of the printer, allowing devices to pre-emptively alert technicians of potential performance issues while maintaining rigid data encryption across all processing and storage.
In summary, these companies are using AI to better secure office printers and MFPs in three key areas: protecting the device from being compromised or breached; protecting the data the devices process from being intercepted; and preventing unauthorized users from using the device.
