Hands-On Test Report, Photos, and Video: Another Outstanding A3 All-in-One from Brother, the INKvestment MFC-J5920dw

Tested Productivity
As mentioned, the MFC-J5920dw feeds media long-edge first, which should increase print speed 29 percent, at least in theory. We performed all of our tests using paper pulled from the top media tray using default settings.

Using the GDI print driver, tested print speeds using our proprietary suite of test originals were comparatively fast at up to 15.94 ppm printing black text, while mixed color text and graphics print speed was up to 16.03 ppm, which is somewhat slower than Brother’s rated ISO print speed of 22 (black)/20 (color) ppm and also compared to that of the MFC-J6925dw. Additionally:

  • Tested print speeds in copy mode were up to 12.45 ppm (using the DADF) and somewhat faster at up to 12.79 ppm when using the flatbed platen. Interestingly, the MFC-J5920dw’s copy speeds were faster than those of the MFC-J6925dw.
  • However, duplex printing and copying speeds were comparatively slow at 6.64 ppm and 3.95 ppm respectively.
  • Nevertheless, tested scan speeds were fast at 12.53 ipm (simplex) and 22.79 ipm (duplex).
