Second Brother Cartridge-Remanufacturing Facility Certified Carbon-Neutral
Brother International reported today that its toner-cartridge collection and remanufacturing facility in Slovakia has been certified carbon-neutral based on the Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 2060 by DNV Business Assurance, a third party headquarted in Italy.
The facility, Brother Industries Slovakia, is a manufacturing company that was established in Krupina in 2006. It collects and recycles consumable toner cartridges used in printers and All-in-Ones from all over Europe and remanufactures them to set standards before shipping them to Brother sales companies.
The company also removes reusable parts from difficult-to-recycle cartridges so that they can be used for new parts.
Brother Industries Slovakia is also said to be working on reducing its CO2, including using a geothermal exchange system for heating and air conditioning, creating power by installing solar panels, and purchasing CO2-free electricity that does not emit CO2 during power generation.
Besides efforts to save energy, the company offset its remaining emissions with carbon credits, purchased through the United Nations (UN) Carbon Offset Platform resulting in its Scopes 1 and 2 CO2 emissions being deemed to meet the PAS 2060 standard.
This is Brother’s second manufacturing facility to be certified, with the Brother Industries U.K. facility having been previously certified.
Under its “Brother Group Environmental Vision 2050,” Brother aims to achieve carbon neutrality in all of its business activities and minimize CO2 emissions in its entire value chain by its fiscal-year 2050.
