Profits Recovering at Konica Minolta, But Revenue Remains Down

Konica Minolta of Japan today released financial results for its third quarter and nine-month period (last three quarters), with both ended on December 31, 2025.

In a nutshell, the company appears to be sustaining a profit recovery, with both periods an improvement over results from a year earlier, although revenue continues to decline – but revenue did improve in the third quarter.

The company’s printer and copier/MFP business appeared to also rebound, but the recovery was mostly in digital solutions, with hardware revenue still down.

Nine-Month Period

Nine-month revenue was  ¥781.11 billion ($4.97 billion), down 6.1 percent year-over-year (YoY); operating profit was ¥33.29 billion ($212.21 million) versus a loss for the same period a year earlier; and net income was ¥21.43 billion ($136.60 million), versus a loss for the same period a year earlier.

For Konica Minolta’s Digital Workplace Business, which includes printers, copier/MFPs, and other workplace technology solutions, revenue was ¥439.1 billion ($2.79 billion), down 4.2 percent YoY, and operating profit was ¥25.6 billion ($163.19 million), up 64.6 percent YoY. However, hardware declined, particularly in the United States and China. Non-hardware revenue, including consumables and services, was affected by a decline in the number of installed bases in the market, and decreased mainly in Europe.

For the company’s Professional Print business, revenue was ¥185.2 billion ($1.18 billion), down 10.8 percent YoY, and operating profit was ¥6.2 billion ($39.52 million), down 29.3 percent YoY.

The company’s Industry business reported that revenue was up 2.0 percent YoY, and it reported an operating profit versus a loss for the previous year. Its Imaging business reported that revenue was down 14.1 percent YoY and operating profit was a loss, which followed a loss for the same period a year earlier.

Konica Minolta estimated that the impact of reciprocal tariffs between the United States and other countries on the company’s business was ¥3.0 billion ($19.12 million).

Third Quarter

Third-quarter revenue was ¥268.0 billion ($1.70 billion), down 2.0 percent YoY; operating profit was  ¥10.3 billion ($65.65 million) versus a loss for the third quarter a year earlier; and net income was a loss of ¥1.2 billion ($7.64 million), which however was an improvement over its loss of ¥2.7 billion ($17.21 million) for the third quarter a year earlier.

Forecast

For its fiscal year that will end on March 31, 2026, Konica Minolta increased its forecast for revenue. It’s now forecasting revenue of  ¥1,075.0 billion ($6.85 billion), down 4.61 percent YoY; operating profit of ¥48.0 billion ($305.98 million) versus a loss for the previous year; and net income of ¥27.0 billion ($172.17 million) versus a loss for the previous year.
