New Fujitsu ScanSnap Document Scanners

On January 19th, Fujitsu Computer Products of America expanded its ScanSnap family of document scanners with two new models, one of which features scanning to cloud destinations, while the other features one-touch scanning.

The ScanSnap family, which Fujitusu introduced about two decades ago, is compatible with Microsoft Windows;  Apple Mac, iOS, iPad; and Android platforms, and are designed for home and business use.

Common features for both new models include automatic size detection, automatic rotation, automatic color detection, and blank-page removal.

ScanSnap iX1600

The flagship iX1600 is said to be the most flexible scanner in the category, allowing users to connect via Wi-Fi wireless or USB port. It provides scanning to network folders, email, print. With the included ScanSnap Cloud software, it also enables users to scan and send to Box, Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive, and Microsoft OneDrive. There is also mobile scanning with Apple iOS and Android  smartphones and tablets.

The ScanSnap iX1600 is rated at 40 ppm/80 ipm (A4-size documents, color, 300 dpi), which is 33-percent faster than its predecessor, the iX1500. Other specifications include maximum page size of 8.5″x14″, 50-page ADF, and 600 dpi optical resolution.

ScanSnap iX1400

The ScanSnap iX1400 provides one-touch scanning with Fujitsu’s one-touch button for quick scanning. It provides scanning to network folders, email, and print.

Specifications include 40 ppm/80 ipm scan speed, maximum page size of 8.5″x14″, 50-page ADF, and 600 dpi optical resolution.

ScanSnap Home 2.0

Both new ScanSnap scanners include Fujitsu’s ScanSnap Home 2.0, an all-in-one software that’s compatible with both Micorosft Windows and Apple Macs, and which provides document management and profile customization.

Fujitsu says it’ improved ScanSnap Home so that it provides faster startup time and Searchable PDF generation. With ScanSnap Home 2.0, the iX1600 is now capable of scanning and processing a fully searchable 10 pages (20 sides) document in approximately 25 seconds.

For both scanners, ScanSnap Home simplifies processing and organizing scanned documents. The software can recognize document type and sort by standard documents, business cards, receipts, and photos. The touch screen features simple icons for quick selection of scan-to destinations including folder, email, or cloud destinations. Users can also create searchable PDFs and editable Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, as well as extract data.

The ScanSnap iX1600 ($495.00 MSPR) and ScanSnap iX1400 ($395.00) are currently available on Amazon.com, as well as through Fujitsu’s retail and channel partners including CDW, Insight, PCM, New Wave, and Tech Data.
