February 9, 2015 – Canon U.S.A. is expanding its desktop document-scanner family with its new imageFORMULA DR-C225W ($549 MSRP) desktop document scanner, which features built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and scan to cloud.

Scanning at up to 25 ppm in color, black-and-white, and grayscale, and on both sides of a document in a single pass, the DR-C225W’s built-in Wi-Fi connectivity enables users to scan and transfer scanned documents directly to select PCs, Macs, smartphones, tablets, and various mobile devices without connecting via cables, in both Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac environments. It’s compatible with mobile iOS devices, such as iPads and iPhones, and Android devices, using the free downloadable Canon CaptureOnTouch Mobile app. Users can also route scanned images directly to third-party cloud applications such as Evernote, Microsoft SharePoint, Dropbox, SugarSync, Google Drive, and OneDrive, and it’s bundled with ISIS and TWAIN scan drivers.

As shown in the photo above, the scanner features a narrow upright design with top original feeding and default top eject, for conserving space. It can scan ID cards and documents up to 118″ long, and includes double-feed detection. Features for enhancing the legibility of documents include clear font outlining and bolding, cropping shadows, and straightening scanned images. For mixed batches of documents, the scanner can automatically detect color sheets, as well as automatically adjust the output resolution for text sheets versus photographs.

The scanner meets Energy Star guidelines for energy efficiency and complies with both the EU RoHS and WEEE directives for the reduction of hazardous substances and waste products.
