New A4 ‘Smart’ Printers from Dell Rated at up to 63 PPM with FPOTs as Fast as 4.3 Seconds

Dell today announced three new members to its line of “smart printers” for mid-size to-large organizations: the Dell Color Smart Printer (S5840cdn), Dell Smart Printer (S2830dn), and Dell Smart Printer (S5830dn).

Dell Color Smart Printer – S5840cdn

The S5840cdn ($999.99) is a color, single-function A4 (letter-size) laser printer that’s designed for large workgroups sharing a printer in business environments, such as banking, schools, and government offices, with high print volumes. It features:

  • Fastest First Page Out Time (FPOT) among printers priced under $1,000, as fast as 5.5 seconds.
  • State-of-the-art printer mechanisms and algorithms to minimize paper jams.
  • Flexible media handling so workers can print on a variety of media sizes, weights, and types, including vinyl.
  • Optimized printer color-calibration.
  • Low-melt toner formulation for better print quality and lower energy consumption.
  • Touchscreen self-help graphics for troubleshooting and error recovery.
  • 1.2 GHz quad-core processor
  • Prints at up to 50-ppm in color and black-and-white.
  • Typical Electricity Consumption (TEC) of only 2.3kwh perweek.
  • Smartphone-like color touchscreen control panel with assistive technology and touch-control using fingertips or pointing devices. The touch screen also provides PC-free previewing of files and printing directly from USB memory drives.

According to Dell, the printer offers long-term savings with the “lowest cost per page” when using the optional high-yield toner cartridge. It also uses long-life imaging components that can last up to 150,000 pages to minimize costs and downtime, plus photoconductor unit drums that are covered with a durable coating to ensure print quality “is as good at page 150,000 as it is on page one.”

Dell Smart Printer – S2830dn

The S2830dn ($279.99) is a black-and-white single-function laser printer designed for small workgroups sharing a printer in a general office or heavy-volume printing, such as in a clinic, nurse’s station, lawyer’s office, bank, pharmacy, school, or anywhere multiple types of paper are often used. It features:

  • Simple navigation and printer menu settings via a 2.4-inch color LCD, as well as onscreen graphics with step-by-step walk-throughs for troubleshooting.
  • Private printing via the secure-print feature; when private print is selected, users must enter their PIN on the numeric keypad at the control panel.
  • State-of-the-art printer mechanisms and algorithms to minimize paper jams.
  • Flexible media options enable users to print on different media types, including specialty paper such as prescription forms, company letterheads, and envelopes, with up to two additional, optional 250-sheet paper trays.
  • Print speeds of up to 40 ppm, and First Page Out Time (FPOT) as fast as 6.5 seconds.

Dell Smart Printer – S5830dn

The S5830dn ($999.99) is a single-function A4 (letter-size) black-and-white laser printer with a “robust and scalable body” to handle varying business printing needs for larger organizations. This model was created for business, enterprise, and government organizations that require “low total cost of ownership, reliability, expandable options and a printer that can run smoothly with minimal IT intervention.” Dell expects the S5830dn to particularly appeal to customers who require fast output, such as hotel check-in counters, retail pharmacists, and distribution centers.

Features include:

  • First Page Out Time (FPOT) as fast as 4.4 seconds, and print speed rated at up to 63 ppm.
  • Flexible media handling means workers can print on a variety of media types, sizes, and weights.
  • Optional paper trays, document staple-finisher, and document output stacker.
  • State-of-the-art printer mechanisms and algorithms to minimize paper jams.
  • 4.3-inch color LCD touchscreen control panel, print from USB memory drives; onscreen touchscreen graphics with step-by-step walk-throughs for troubleshooting.
  • According to Dell, the S5830dn “offers long-term savings with the lowest cost per page printing when using the optional Extra-High-Yield Toner Cartridge.”
