Kyocera Rolls Out Next-Gen A3 Copier/MFP with AI-Assisted Confidential Document Detection Security Feature

On August 25th, Kyocera Document Solutions America introduced the ECOSYS MZ3201ix, its next-generation A3 copier/MFP that features print, copy, and scan, and optional fax.
The ECOSYS MZ3201ix also includes three built-in cloud apps. Kyocera Cloud Print and Scan (KCPS) provides secure cloud print and scan; Kyocera Cloud Connect (KCC) provides cloud storage access; and Kyocera Cloud Information Manager (KCIM) provides document capture and search. In addition, smart scanning helps reduce manual preparation and sorting, digitizing and routing documents to cloud and business applications with fewer steps and fewer opportunities for error.
Advanced scanning capabilities include: mixed-size and auto-size detection for originals; automatic ID card scanning; barcode and 2D scanning; and MultiCrop scan to digitize multiple documents at once.
Security
For security, the ECOSYS MZ3201ix also features:
- FIPS 140-3 encryption, TPM, and Secure Boot that protect devices and data at the hardware level
- Secure print with PIN/ID authentication.
- Microsoft Universal Print and Windows Enabled. The embedded user interface is further enhanced through the Kyocera Print Center, allowing devices to fit into the cloud-based print management IT teams already run through Microsoft 365 and Azure AD.
- Advanced network security and business continuity features, including backup and restore and fault isolation.
AI Confidential Document Detection
The new model also features Kyocera’s AI Confidential Document Detection (also referred to as Confidential Document Guard), which is an on-device artificial intelligence feature built into select Kyocera MFPs that automatically identifies sensitive or restricted paperwork during the scanning process to prevent data leaks. Here’s how it works:
- Automatic Recognition: The system scans for explicit indicators of restricted access, such as the word “Confidential.”
- Custom Pre-Registration: Users or administrators can pre-register specific custom text, stamps, or watermarks unique to their organization for AI to flag.
- Process Interruption: When a sensitive document is detected, the printer stops the loading/scanning process immediately to stop accidental digitization, sharing, or data exposure.
- Local Processing: The AI processing runs directly on the local hardware device rather than routing data through the cloud, keeping sensitive internal records secure.
Long-Life Components
Long-life components, along with a built-in standard Document Processor, help reduce total cost of ownership, with predictable service costs.
Other specifications include: 32 ppm print speed; 50 (simplex)/16 (duplex) images per minute scan speed; 1,200 x 1,200 dpi resolution; and optional wireless connectivity.
