Hands-On Test Report, Photos, and Video: Another Outstanding A3 All-in-One from Brother, the INKvestment MFC-J5920dw

Management

Aside from Hewlett-Packard’s “Enterprise” series, Brother’s printer-management capabilities stand head-and-shoulders above that of all other desktop printers in its class: compatibility with Brother’s BRAdmin Professional and Web-based fleet management solutions, with BRPrint Auditor available for managing locally connected printers; Remote Settings Utility for easy local setup and configuration; highly competent Embedded Web Server (EWS) with local user account administration that includes ID and PIN access with function-lock settings (administrators, for instance, can specify no color printing or media port access for selected users) and print quotas for selected users. The only thing that’s missing is domain-level network authentication, which however is a rarity among small and mid-size business printers.

The Brother MFC-J5920dw EWS (Embedded Web Server) is accessed by entering its network IP address into the address bar of a Web browser. Here, virtually every monitoring and setup option can be performed remotely.

As shown, the Embedded Web Server is used to configure local user authentication, function lock, and user print quotas.
