Gartner: India Printer, Copier, and MFP Shipments Increased 13.2 Percent in Third Quarter

The combined serial inkjet and page printer, copier and MFP market in India totaled 861,212 units in the third quarter of 2013, a 13.2 percent increase from the third quarter of 2012, according to Gartner, Inc. Total end-user spending declined 9 percent from the same period last year totaling USD $223.7 million. Both the monochrome and color markets posted increases of 12 percent and 28 percent.

“Indian organizations are still largely paper driven, but there is increasing importance of digitization and the need to access information anytime, anywhere. This represents an opportunity for print providers to expand their services into optimizing the document workflows that support business processes,” said Zalak Shah, research analyst at Gartner.

Hewlett-Packard remained the market leader in the Indian printer; copier and MFP market (see Table 1), as its market share totaled 51.5 percent, followed by Canon with 21 percent and Epson with 9 percent share. Samsung Electronics accounted for 7 percent, while Ricoh accounted for 6 percent of the market in the third quarter of 2013.

The Page A4 MFP segment continued to grow in the third quarter of 2013 and increased 20 percent compared to the third quarter of 2012. HP continued to perform well in this segment, with a growth of 31.7 percent and a market share of 56.7 percent. Samsung again at No.2 grew slightly with its market share at 19 percent, Canon’s shipments increased by 33.4 percent, and it accounted for 12.8 percent of the market.

The Page A3 MFP segment showed a small increase of 2 percent compared to the third quarter of 2012. Canon again led the market with 23.1 percent market share; while Ricoh was at No. 2 with 19.4 percent market share, followed by Konica Minolta with 19 percent share.

The page printer market overall experienced a growth of 7.6 percent in the third quarter of 2013. The market leaders in this segment were HP with 47 percent market share, followed by Canon at 24 percent market share, and Ricoh with 16 percent market share. HP and Canon’s shipments declined 6 percent and 9 percent.
