Fujifilm Business Innovation Begins Producing Remanufactured Office Copier/MFPs

Fujifilm Circular Manufacturing Center in the Philippines

Fujifilm Business Innovation of Japan reported today that it’s begun full-scale operation of its Circular Manufacturing Center (CMC) for product remanufacturing. On July 30th, the CMC shipped its first remanufactured machine, the Fujifilm ApeosPort-VII C R Series model.

At the CMC, used MFPs collected in the Asia-Pacific region are remanufactured into machines with quality equivalent to newly built machines by replacing worn or consumed parts according to each machine’s usage history.

According to Fujifilm, in Asia, including the Philippines, policies and regulatory frameworks increasingly emphasize energy efficiency, resource conservation, and sustainable procurement that takes environmental considerations into account. Consequently, the value of remanufactured machines is gaining broad recognition as it offers quality equivalent to new-built machines. As a result, demand for remanufactured machines in Asian markets is rising.

The new site in the Philippines, which is located at the center of the Asia-Pacific region, is said to provide  geographical advantages for efficient logistics. Through this initiative, the company will support resource circulation and efforts to reduce lifecycle CO₂ emissions across the region, while strengthening human resource development in the Philippines CMC to establish a resource circulation (remanufacturing) system in the Asia-Pacific region.

The remanufactured MFPs produced at the CMC in the Philippines include usage history, such as the number of prints. They are reset and with a new manufacturing date, product name assigned.

Promoting Resource Circulation for Zero Waste

In 1995, Fujifilm Business Innovation established its company-wide recycling policy, “Promoting Resource Circulation Toward Zero Waste,” and built a resource-circulation system that considers the entire product lifecycle, from product planning, development, and manufacturing through to disposal.

Since then, the company has worked to reduce the environmental impact of its business activities, recognizing the importance of environmental conservation. Building on the recycling technologies and resource circulation expertise cultivated in Japan, it’s been expanding regional collection, remanufacturing and supply systems around the world. In 2008, the company established Fujifilm Eco-Manufacturing (Suzhou) Corporation as a recycling system site for used products collected by the company in China. In 2024, it established a CMC in the Netherlands as a manufacturing site to promote resource circulation in Europe.

Fujifilm Business Innovation is also promoting the reuse of used MFPs, toner cartridges, spare parts and other items, as well as the use of recycled materials such as recycled plastics and recycled steel, toward its target of reducing the depletable virgin resource input rate.

Products that the company is recycling and refurbishing include toner-based copier/MFPs,  printers, production printers, packaging materials, drums, toner cartridges, options, and related items. The recycled ratio is calculated by using the total weight of these products as the denominator and the input weight of depletable virgin resources such as fossil fuels, gold, silver, copper, and iron as the numerator.
