Canon Adds New Media-Handling Capability for its Flagship High-Volume Arizona Flatbed Printers
Canon U.S.A. reports that it’s launching new industrial configurations for its Océ Arizona 6100 Series, the company’s flagship flatbed printers designed for print providers producing 300,000 – 2,000,000 square feet of rigid media per year. Developed to address the short-run corrugated package-printing and temporary POP (Point of Purchase) display market, the new High Flow Vacuum configuration is said to make the Océ Arizona 6100 Series ideal for “dynamic, versatile large-format printing applications.”
Available for both the 6-color Océ Arizona 6160 XTS and 7-color Océ Arizona 6170 XTS models in the third quarter of 2017, the new High Flow Vacuum configuration allows users to develop applications traditionally served by screen printing or lithographic lamination. Users can now also load and print on various forms of challenging media, such as highly porous corrugated fiberboard and warped plywood, without taping or mechanically constraining it in, and the new option is said to enhance Océ Arizona print quality with speeds over 1,000 square feet per hour for uncoated corrugated fiberboard, plywood, and rigid fiberboard printing applications.
Featuring unrestricted air ways and an Océ-patented airflow management system designed to bring all available airflow to bear instantly, the new High Flow Vacuum configuration is said to make loading even severely warped media easy and efficient. This enables plywood, MDF, and other fiberboard and wood-printing applications that would otherwise require mechanical constraint of the media to handle effectively.
To better support the printing of 5.2 feet-wide paper fiberboard media such as Re-Board and Xanita, the new configuration features an even larger print area than standard. An expanded vacuum surface of 8.2 feet x 10.4 feet allows for 2-up printing of 4 feet x 8 feet boards, while the standard pneumatic registration pins ensure easy, repeatable rigid media loading.
“The Océ Arizona 6100 Series continues to open the door to new business opportunities in the flatbed printing market, and has set an industry standard for delivering high-speed and high productivity with best-in-class print quality,” said Sal Sheikh, senior director of marketing for Canon U.S.A.’s Large Format Solutions. “With the new High Flow Vacuum configuration, we are continuing on that success and will extend the reach of this successful series to forms of demanding substrates that have proven to be difficult in the past. This is also an excellent opportunity for users to explore innovation in the flatbed printing landscape, and this new feature will allow both new and existing customers to move more applications to a digital platform without the burden of astronomical costs.”
